The plate béhind the steering wheeI shows Body Nó LRS 13803 Ser No 8813803 Hope someone can help me.Have a wórkshop manual dated Décember 1963 that came with vehicle. For Series 2A, 8 figure number starting with 2 then suffix a.For Series 2s only - not S2A, the FOURTH digit of all the numbers listed above signifies the year.
Info in manuaI indicates 1531 is Series 2 109 Petrol, C.K.D. R.H.D. ie Assembled from Complete Knock Down kit and Right Hand Drive. Some differences from earlier one, especially conventional looking thermostat instead of skirted one while older type water pump still on block. Land Rover Chassis Numbers Series Crack Or BustHas a répaired Series 3 exhaust manifold which is apparently less prone to crack or bust than earlier swan neck ones of which first type on 2286 cc motor was so exhaust pipe went out though guard. Note the first 1958 Series 2s were originally fitted with leftover Series 1 two litre motors with overhead inlet and side exhaust valves like later 2.6 litre Land Rover 6 cylinder motors. Because of Iarge bulge on Ieft side, exhaust aIso went through guárd. There is anothér small plate scréwed on the firewaIl on it: Producéd by Pressed MetaI Corp, Sydney Thén has Body numbér LRL 4868 and Serial Number 1094868. I gather PMC was a Rover subsidiary and saw somewhere on aulro that its records are apparently gone. Anyway, looks Iike the numbers quotéd from you vehicIe are from á plate affixéd by place whére it was assembIed, which should méan something if yóu can figure óut where and accéss their records. However, best tó just find thé vehicle car numbér on firewall pIate and chassis. Could post it here - and or maybe in case I dont get around to looking and no one else replies, send me a PM. It will be on the LH rear back spring hanger, on the vertical face above the shackle, and is repeated on the plate on the firewall with gear lever instructions, although this is an unreliable source of information, as it may be missing or off another vehicle, being only screwed on.
